what a year…
As soon as Christmas was over I started reflecting on the year that we, that I have had. It started with baby prep, as Pam entered her Spring semester and 3rd trimester with PG. I remember worrying about PG’s heart- if it was healthy and strong. And I remember the relief when we knew it was ok. And then, with 2 minutes to spare, I got the best birthday present ever. PG joined our family, and brought even more joy to our lives.
K turned a year older, and continues to grow into an amazing person. Watching her grow, and show how intelligent she is is a gift. I can’t get over her turning 5 this February. I remember the fear of being a new parent 5 years ago, and the fear and concern about her heart.
Pam rocked out 2 more semesters this year…and is a smester and a year of rotations from earning her doctorate. I’m so proud of her.
I’ve made it through another year at work…adding more responsibilities, another boss and had fun along the way. It was a challenging year, but I’m glad for it.
And then, in October…at PG’s christening, my friend Jon called me out, about running the Chicago marathon that day…as I had said I would do in 2008. Three days later, I read about Lauren and Dave’s marathon adventure and I was moved. I emailed Dave, and well…if you read this blog, you already know the story so far.
I’ve gotten to run with Lauren and with Dave…and hope to run with Iron Barb in the coming weeks/ months!
I heard from Coach Jen, who has graciously taken me under her wing and is training me for my goals. Jen is fantastic! She answers any and all of my (noob) questions and helps keep me on track!
I met Mark and Pom and the gang from Runners High ‘n Tri, who have sponsored me on this journey. I’m extremely grateful for their support and encouragement.
And as I’ve trained, I’ve heard from friends and family who have told me I have inspired them, motivated them to get active! I have never thought of myself as a source of inspiration, or as a role model. It’s a little weird, but damn cool at the same time. The fact I can inspire people is extremely motivating to me…I feel like I can’t let you down. When I’m having an off day I think of my cousins who are exercising, or old friends who have hit the gym or gone for a run and I’ve thought about seeing my wife get active…it picks me up and it drives me.
When I stop to think about the progress I’ve made…I smile. When I started i could barely run for 5 minutes. Saturday I run for 65! I’ve lost 35lbs in 12 weeks…and I’m laying the foundation to live a much healthier lifestyle. That’s bad-ass! And when I stop to think about the support from friends, family and everyone who reads this blog…including the folks I’ve never met…I get overwhelmed. I am grateful for the support and for the encouragement!
It’s been a wild ride this year…I’m a little sad 2009 is ending, but I’m excited about 2010. I look forward to kicking 2010’s ass!
